English Version

Saskia Huetink, painter, born in Breukelen Holland, has grown up in an artistic environment. Her mother named her after Rembrandt’s wife Saskia van Uilenburg. Her father, being an officer in the Dutch army, was a passionate art collector. Saskia descends from a lineage of art painters and sculptors.

During her studies at the academy of arts in Utrecht Saskia developed her own style around the theme of dance and movements. She finished her study “cum laude” under supervision of Hans Almekinders. Some of her teachers were Peter Voormeij, Joop Vegter and Marie-José van de Sandt, all contemporary artists.

At the moment she works in her own studio in Nieuwegein. She also teaches drawing from a model and portraits at the “Volks-University”. Besides making art she also developed skills in organising and managing art auctions for beneficial purposes and exhibitions.

Her main theme is the woman as a virgin, mother, mistress or guardian of the “beaux arts”. At this moment she works with the Japanese form, the geisha. Her powerful use of colours and her language of forms giving a certain authenticity to her work, an emotional load. Her strongly developed inner life is often projected in her work. Also looking at her work makes you to know her better, because of the sometimes autobiographic side of the paintings. About her work she says:’’ I only can paint in absolute rest and solitude. Just at that moment I get submerged in my subconsciousness resulting in the strongest work being revealed.

Her Japanese paintings are an excellent example of her tremendous use of colours. Here colours are more than just colours, they show the ultimate psyche of the woman beneath the kimono. An Amsterdam art collector described it as follows: “Saskia images the temptation. The use of colour in her Japanese work is almost religious. Clothing looks as being sculptured, faces become masks, therefore the paintings become monumental.” In every painting the spectator can see influences of Chagall, Klimt or Munch.

Saskia Huetink regularly exhibits in Holland and abroad. Her paintings have been sold to private collectors and to banks in The Netherlands, France, Italy, the United States and New Zealand. Future expositions are scheduled for Poland, Belgium and Delft, Holland.

Her latest theme is the classical myth of Leda and the Swan. It involves acryl on linen paintings sized 120X100. They are already to be found on her web-site. They incorporate all properties of her work described above from form and colour language to subconsciously revealed feelings.
